NHS Eye Test – Who Qualifies

You are entitled to a free NHS sight test if you:

Age

• Under 16

• 16–18 and in full-time education.

• 60 or over

Medical conditions

• Diagnosed with Diabetes

• Diagnosed with Glaucoma

• Aged 40 or over with a parent, brother, sister or child with glaucoma

• Advised by an ophthalmologist that you are at risk of glaucoma

Benefits

NHS Child Sight Examination WITHOUT OCT scan

This is a basic eye examination without a scan and will last around 30 minutes, plus any additional time you may need to choose new eyewear.

Charges

This is a free NHS appointment if you are eligible for an NHS eye test. £39 for a basic private appointment.

For a child to have an OCT 3D scan. The cost is £15

Please mention this to a member of staff when attending your appointment.

New wearers of contact lenses.

Our expert contact lens consultant will assess your eye health and assist you in selecting the most suitable contact lenses for your needs.

Please allow up to one hour for this appointment as it may involve a session with one of our consultants who will demonstrate how to safely and confidently apply, remove and handle contact lenses.

To schedule this appointment you will need a current eye test prescription. Typically, an eye test prescription is valid for up to 2 years, the expiry date will be shown on the prescription. If you do not have a valid prescription, kindly arrange for an eye test prior to your contact lens assessment.

Children aged under 16 must have a parent or guardian with them during this appointment.

Current wearers of contact lenses.

Please remember to wear your contact lenses when you come in for your appointment and bring your glasses with you.

Ensure your sight test is up-to-date and valid.

A contact lens health check covers an assessment of your vision, eye comfort and condition of your eyes in relation to your contact lenses.
